Michael Denering is a native
born Southern Californian. Son
of a Dutch father and an Italian
mother. Lived in the N.
Hollywood area in an Italian
community. Many of the neighbors
came from the same area and the
same village in the Abruzzi
mountains in Italy. All the
children grew up with the
stories of the old country and
the traditions
that were brought from there
villages. When Michael started
his artistic career he painted
outdoors and spent time in the
local mountains painting. He
traveled to Italy to follow the
roots of his grandparents. Spent
time in Rome and Florence
sketching
and phographing images for
paintings. He traveled to the
small ancestral village of
Lettopalena high in the Abruzzi
region. A medieval village that
hasn’t changed much since the
early 11 hundreds. He was
greated with love and kindness
as a returning son from a
distant land. There he sketched
and did color studies for future
paintings with the promise to
someday return to continue
painting the village landscape.
Returning home to California he
paints the local landscape while
he plans his return to the
little village were he found his
heart and soul.
For 30 years he has worked for
the motion picture industry as a
Scenic Artist and paints murals
and Backdrops for famous movie
productions. Some of the films
have been: Ghostbusters I & II,
Die Hard I & II, Lethal Weapons
I & II, Charlie Angels I & II,
Dracula, Batman, The Green Mile,
Jurassic Park, Spiderman and
several 100 more.
He is a member of the Art
Directors Guild and serves on
there board of directors. He has
also painted backdrops for the

Tapper Forum. Murals for Las
Vegas, Atlantic city, Disney
