Carlos Cortes was born the only son of single mother Dominga Cortes. He grew up in Chicago, Illinois in the late 70s and has one older sister. His desire for story telling peaked his interest in cameras at a very young age. In third grade he carried a Kodak Polaroid camera to school everyday. He later convinced the schools principle to allow him to take the yearbook photos for the entire school. He went on to manage his high school television department that was responsible for broadcasting all sporting events for the school. He attended Southern Illinois University. After receiving his undergrad in Television Production, he accepted an offer from Cable News Network, and moved to CNN headquarters in Atlanta. There he quickly moved up the ranks and became a Field News Camera Operator. After a couple years of traveling domestically with the bureau, he moved to Los Angeles and started his own production company "bedifferent, LLC. Now, his company has several clients including NBC, DISNEY, TRIBUNE, EXTRA, MTV, THE DISCOVERY CHANNEY, US ARMY, and TIME WARNER AOL. His experience as a Director of Photography in Los Angeles, has led him to a 2012 Emmy nomination and the completion of his first documentary entitled "The American Bum." A look into homelessness in the United States airing on PBS. He is now a News photojournalist for KTLA CHANNEL 5 in Los Angeles. He is a proud father of 3 boys, with his oldest son being 12, and twins who are 8.
