Thom Roslan
Art for
Thom is more than paint, easel, a brush or a mouse. It’s
a Life Choice where he’s had a VISION to find the
“perfect” piece. We know there is No such animal, but
the search for it is in him and the art he creates is
always that “next” step. Since finding the NEW technique
that blends Old World Mediums with 21st Century
Technology, we believe he is one step closer to finding
that “PERFECT IMAGE."
His choice of genre is Digital Collage & Mixed Mediums.
It is a “blending” mixture which he calls “Digi-fuZion”
- a combination of mediums such as paint, ink, printing
pulls and photography. By using Digi-fuZion technology
in wide- format printing and “highly unique” substrate
printing methods, he can now blend and merge two
different worlds into one unique piece of Fine Art. The
real beauty of the pieces is in the printing methods &
techniques he utilizes such as “Gelatin Transfers,” “Dye
Emulsion Transfers,” “Wet Substrate Transfers,”
“Overprinting” and “Layered Prints with Collage &
Paint."
“I’ve always been thrilled by such art Luminaries as
Robert Rauschenberg, William DeKooning and Jean Paul
Basquiat. Their unique styles have always been an
adventurous study of pushing the Art World limits with
new and unique ideas and medium advances. And, as for
myself now, I create Fine Art for the New Millennium on
many different substrates, papers & canvases for a
Unique style!” exclaims Thom.
Thom's career has spanned four decades in the fields of
photography, fine art and graphic design. He’s also been
a patented inventor of a backlit optical frame for home
and office use.
As a young adult, Thom was a victim of a very serious
automobile accident sustaining a compound fracture of
one leg. Due to hospital negligence his wound developed
a serious staff infection bordering on gangrene. The
hospital told him that they had to amputate and he would
never walk again. That is, never be able to “walk the
walk” that photographers must do to be creative and
innovative. He refused to let them amputate and took
charge of his medical care and saved his leg!
When he joined the Navy he requested to be a Navy
photographer but was assigned to
airplane mechanics. He then became a staff photographer
for Off Road Magazine using a wide variety of lenses and
techniques. Eventually he branched out on his own,
creating new applications of his digital art works, new
mediums, new innovations, etc. such as painting on
aluminum paneling, plaster canvas, papyrus, etc.
"Thom
represents our show theme perfectly - VISION - the
American spirit of innovation, determination and
results," says NoHo Gallery LA Director Daniel C.
DeBevoise. "Our curating team has chosen artists for
this show that also represent various backgrounds, art
styles and mediums - a diverse group that represents our
diverse culture."
