 Wendell Wiggins BIO

Through my paintings I seek to convey optimism, excitement, exuberance and joy. Energy is an essence produced within all things. Positivity is a state of being I promote and hope will flourish. Portraying life and culture through representational images, I seek to reach beyond realism with vibrant use of color and motion. My mission is to create paintings hat are both visually and emotionally "Moving.”

Visual Arts, Music, Performance Art and Travel have always been my greatest passions in life. I received my first official training in drawing and painting as a teenage while enrolled in several arts programs in my hometown of Washington, D.C. I attended the Cleveland Institute of Art in Ohio where I received a BFA degree in Illustration, Graphic Design and Photography. I then moved to Valencia, California where I was hired as Lead Graphic Designer for an Interior Design firm. Valencia was also the location of the California Institute of Art which became my new institute of higher learning. CalArts quickly became a place to gather knowledge and experience world class art, music, dance, theatre and film making. I began working as a freelance designer & illustrator throughout Los Angeles County until I was hired by Studio Effects, Inc., a Broadcast Design and Film effects company. I spent the next five years learning the art of special effects animation during the early days of computer graphics. During this period I designed and art directed graphics for many well-known TV shows and film titles including the concept for the Paramount Studios Logo opening currently seen in movie theatres worldwide. At this time I decide to take a break and travel to Brazil for several months. This life changing adventure inspired me to return to painting. On my return to the U.S. I was given opportunities to exhibit my photographs and paintings in several LA art exhibitions including a group show at the El Pueblo Gallery on Olvera Street in downtown LA. In Graphic Arts, I was fortunate to work at both ABC and Fox-TV creating broadcast graphics. I spent years designing graphics for a variety of popular shows, including the Grammy’s, Star Search, The Olympics, Sports, News programs and more. During this period I was able to travel to many parts of Europe, Central, South America, the Caribbean and S.E. Asia. At present, I continue to work as a Graphic Design, producing Film posters, DVD art, Logos, Brochures and Illustrations. This exhibit is my first in many years. The themes are inspired my appreciation for the spiritual beauty of nature, dance, music and cultural diversity, which the great Earth Mother manifest and reveals through all things. My goal has been to capture that essence and recreate this energy through the movement of representational images.
