Mike McCormick is a veteran of
more than 40 years in television
news in Los Angeles. He retired
from KNBC News in Burbank in
2002 after 36 years as a writer,
field producer, and assignment
editor. In the mid-80s,
McCormick won two local Emmys
and a Golden Globe Award for
investigative reporting and
feature news production.
Upon retiring from NBC,
McCormick went to work as a per
diem news writer at KCBS/KCAL
News, now located in Studio
City. He has since transferred
to Technical Operations as the
news division’s satellite
coordinator and systems trainer.
For the past ten years,
McCormick has also been a
reserve public information
office with FEMA, the Federal
Emergency Management Agency. In
that time, he has been deployed
to natural disaster all over the
country. The photos shown in
this exhibition were taken on
deployment to the Ozarks of
Northern Arkansas following last
February’s tornadoes.
The closest McCormick ever came
to taking photographs
professionally was shooting
pictures with a 4x5 Speed
Graphic in the Navy – that was a
long time ago – and more
recently, shooting disaster and
recovery photos for FEMA.
McCormick lives in Thousand Oaks
with his wife Judith.
