My objective is to create images
illustrating our society’s
obsession with celebrities,
luxury brands and patoriatism. I
call this: “my American journey
through marketing and pop
culture.”
If I were to put a label on my
work it would be Newsertainment.
Inspired by the merger of news
and entertainment reporting
found in print, online and on
TV. My work is an extension of
those medias by creating another
one. I call this: Newsertainment
Home Collection or NHC as it
looks nicer on towels.
I incorporate ideas derived from
online blogs, political shows
and talk radio. I also borrow
elements from other works of
art: some readily recognizable,
others found in thrift stores or
yard sales. I add architectural
details, landscapes or
advertising images. I then do a
mash-up of these elements, to
develop a visual interpretation
of what I have either sketched,
experienced or imagined.
Inspiration
Television: Real Time with Bill
Maher, UFC Pay-Per-View, The
McLaughlin Group, and TMC
(Turner Classic Movies).
Artistic: Robert Rauschenberg,
Mark Tansey, George Bellows, Le
Corbusier.
Medium: Oil on canvas, allows me
to build up layers, textures and
glazes. Photomotages which allow
me to use images I created or
purchased the rights to use.
