ARTIST STATEMENT
My latest work is aesthetically
and conceptually new for the art
world. I select sterile images
from mass media and transform
them into unique fine art. Each
painting starts with several
advertisements. I do multiple
blind contour drawings of the
figures in the ads. Blind
contour drawings are when the
artist focuses entirely on their
subject without ever looking at
the paper they are drawing on.
The results are unpredictable
and carefree in nature. Complex,
commercial images are
transformed into lyrical lines
weaving across the page. I
choose the best of the blind
contours and paint them on
canvases. I fill the negative
space with ornate patterns and
vivid colors, creating an
entirely new aesthetic. My work
makes a bold statement from
afar, yet is a maze of detail up
close. My dreamlike images
transport the viewer away from
commercialism to a simpler world
of whim and magic.
